Transportation
Transportation from the hotel
to the venue of the conference (Carnegie Mellon University) will be
provided with the hotel reservation.
Should you choose to travel on your own, here are some useful tips for intercity transportation.
Means of transportation inside the city or between cities are various:
- To get from the airport to your hotel or around the city, there are limousine services offered by different companies for fixed fees.
- Airport Shuttle
The Pittsburgh Airport shuttle( the 28X bus), is a fast efficient, and inexpensive way to get to campus. Follow this link to the Port Authority Transit site to search for schedules. Choose the 28X if searching by route number or Airport Flyer if searching by route name.
You may board the 28X bus in the public transportation area of the Pittsburgh International Airport. This bus route travels via downtown Pittsburgh to Carnegie Mellon without needing to transfer buses. Carnegie Mellon University is the last stop on the route. The fare is $2.25. Since Port Authority operators neither carry change nor make change, riders must be prepared to pay exact fare or pay an amount in excess of the prevailing fare.
- To get from one place to another in Pittsburgh, you can take a taxi, bus, metro or private car.
- Taxi Service
is available in the Greater Pittsburgh area. The area's two
largest cab companies are Yellow Cab (412-665-8100) and People's Cab
(412-681-3131). As a warning for visitors from other cities, don't
expect to be able to hail a cab anytime you want. Cabs in Pittsburgh
generally require a phone call to arrange for a pickup, or a walk to
the nearest hotel cab stand. Cabs are also available at the Pittsburgh
International Airport. The approximate cost of a taxi trip form the
airport is $40+ tip
- Public bus system PAT cover the major areas of the city and are much cheaper.Bus transportation is free within downtown Pittsburgh from 4:00AM - 7:00PM! Fares are collected as the rider boards on an inbound, or downtown-bound trip and as the rider exits the outbound or suburban-bound trip, with some exceptions. Check out the Pittsburgh Port Authority Transit's Web site for zone maps, an interactive bus schedule locater, fare information, bus routes, disability access and to purchase bus tickets and passes.
